             It tells History that Alcobaça city was founded in the end of the XVIII (1872) century by the setters that raised the San Bernard church at this place. San Bernard is the patron of Portuguese city which has the same name. Three centuries passed and Alcobaça still guards the secret treasures which French corsairs buried in its cost.

             Situated at the Extreme South of Bahia, lose to the encounter of the Itanhem river with the sea Alcobaça has calm beaches and beautiful mangroves and guards its history fulled of legends and traditions.

             Alcobaça develops activities concerning to fishing, agriculture and catte breeding. The city possesses today a population of almost 20 thousand inhabitants, equally distributed between the urban and rural areas. San Bernard's old church, the large colony houses, the well water and the streets with small old houses ranged in a file, featured the history's city.

             The history ransom is also present at the popular and religious feart days like San Sebastian on August 20th and or November, 11th and they bring us the rituals, the color of the clothes and the fighting dances, including the "capoeiras" presentation which are enough divulged at the land.

             Even thought all of this, the strip of the sea between Alcobaça and ABROLHO'S archipelago was chosen by the jubart whales to procreate and to nurse its restlings. These whales are also called as singer whales because its sonorous and gracious ballet and they must be seen near the boats between the months of July and November.
